SCION RACING – OLYMPUS 2011

Having competed in auto shows, drifting, and road racing, Scion Racing's next outing would be in the US-based RallyCar rally racing series. Their sponsored entrant would be the Sparco Rally xD, originally born as a SEMA Show special. Having contested a handful of events, the Sparco Rally xD team would enter the 2011 Olympus Rally with its second driver/co-driver pairing and a new turbocharged engine setup.

With the team on the path to the podium, our task was to capture the action and provide a rally primer for the viewer. After understanding the sport, the mechanics, and the setting, viewers would be drawn to the team's characters and return for future segments. Utilizing portable Canon DSLRs, multiple mini in-car cameras, and lightweight Panasonic AVCCAM cameras, our team ventured through dirt and mud into the Washington forest. Intricate scheduling and careful navigation of the rally maps was key to maximizing our action footage, as was realizing the potential for danger in certain spots.
