SCION RACING – TEAM DAY

A pioneer in automotive marketing, Scion is unique in its multi-racing approach. Going grassroots, Scion involves itself in drag, rally, road, time attack, and drift racing. From the xD to the tC, their entire line-up is represented - a feat that no other car manufacturer can boast.

When it came time for Scion Racing to represent and promo its entire 2011 talent roster, we got the call. We knew we were in for a task. Coordinating schedules and staff is just one part of this project. The rest involves shooting nine back-to-back interviews, covering eight teams, shooting nine cars on track, and carrying out four separate car-to-car driving segments. Throw in 100-degree weather, overheating camera equipment, temperamental racecars, and less than eight hours to shoot and you begin to see the tight organization needed to get it all done.

Stations were setup for assembly line interviews and mini-howitzer 500mm Canon lenses were used to cover the racetrack. The car-to-car footage was filmed using a custom aluminum Canon 7D cage built in-house here at Clockwork Media. Attached to a Scion xB camera car using Magic Arms and high-grade suction mounts, the cage rig held the camera securely with a rear facing view. HDMI cables carried the output signal to the driver, who arranged the cars, determined the pace, and managed the framing. The end result makes it all look so easy.
